What makes the Belgian coast unique for families
The Belgian Kustram is one of the smartest solutions for family holidays anywhere in Europe. This tram line runs 67 kilometres along the entire coast, from De Panne to Knokke-Heist, with stops every few hundred metres. For children under six the Kustram is completely free. For children aged 6 to 11 there is a heavily discounted day ticket. This means you can explore the whole coast without a car, with a pushchair or bikes on the tram. The beaches are wide and flat, ideal for young children who want to build sandcastles or paddle carefully. Lifeguards watch swimming zones in July and August. Many beaches have playgrounds, mini-clubs or beach animation for children during high season. Plopsaland in De Panne, 25 minutes by Kustram from Ostend, is a large amusement park with rides for all ages. For sea life lovers there is Sea Life in Blankenberge. For rainy days there are indoor pools and play paradises in all major coastal towns.
